New builds in Llíber

Llíber lies in the Vall de Pop, in the Marina Alta, by the Xaló river, also called the Gorgos. It is a small village: fewer than a thousand residents, 191 metres above sea level. The parish church of Saints Cosme and Damián, according to the regional tourism portal, was converted over time from an old mosque.

Around it lies the Pla de Llíber, one of the few places in the Marina Alta where vineyards survived phylloxera. Muscatel grapes were made into raisins here: the bunches were dipped briefly in boiling water with homemade lye and herbs, then dried under the riuraus. The riuraus still stand at the foot of the hill, and the escaldà has been protected as Valencian intangible heritage since 2018. From the town hall square the PR-CV 53.5 trail leads to the ruins of the Muslim castle of Aixa, from the early 12th century, with the whole valley in view from the top.
