I show Villajoyosa to people moving here to live, not to holiday: it is a town that lives all year round. It has about 37,400 residents, almost four times as many as Finestrat, and most of your neighbours will be Spanish. The town has its own hospital, Hospital Marina Baixa, and three state secondary schools, so a teenager studies in town.
The old town walls date from the 16th century, and fishermen painted the houses above the Amadorio river in different colours so they could spot their own from the sea. The municipality has about fifteen kilometres of coast, and in 2026 six of its beaches were awarded a Blue Flag. The Alicante to Benidorm tram runs through the town.
