Calpe is known for the Peñón de Ifach: a limestone rock 332 metres high that rises from the sea and is joined to land by a narrow isthmus. It has been a natural park since 1987. The rock helped form the Las Salinas lagoon, where flamingos live. On the isthmus you can still see the Roman fish ponds of the Baños de la Reina.
As of 1 January 2025 Calpe has about 27,600 residents, and almost half of them are foreigners. At the notary, 72 buyers in 100 over the past year were foreigners. Tram line 9 from Benidorm to Dénia runs through the town.
A new home is rare here: over the past year new builds made up fewer than five sales in a hundred. A square metre in a new build averages €4,822 at the notary, against €2,905 across the whole market. My survey currently holds 13 projects in Calpe, from €405,000. From 11 of them you can walk to the beach. Handover: 2026-2028. There are ready homes too.
If you want a new flat by the sea in a town where new homes are scarce, I would look at Calpe together with Benidorm.
