Altea Hills is a gated urbanisation on the slopes above the bay of Altea, between the sea and the mountains. Almost all of the town's new housing stands here and next to it, and it means villas with their own pools and terraces looking over the bay. Altea grows not upwards but along the slopes.
Behind the urbanisation rises the Serra de Bèrnia, a protected natural landscape: a trail leads to the natural tunnel of the Forat de Bèrnia with its viewpoint. Altea itself has had a nine-hole golf club since 1976. From Altea it is about 12 kilometres to Benidorm and about 70 to Alicante airport, a little over an hour on the motorway.
